Driving Advice
Utility vehicles handle differently than other types of vehicles and are designed to be operated on multiple road surfaces as well as off-road. These vehicles have a higher ground clearance and hence a higher center of gravity, which has been associated with an increased risk of a vehicle roll-over.
Utility vehicles are not designed to corner at the same speeds as passenger cars.
Utility vehicles have a significantly higher rollover rate than other types of vehicles. To reduce the risk of serious injury or death from a rollover or other collision you must:
-
Avoid sharp turns and abrupt maneuvers;
-
Drive at safe speeds for the conditions;
-
Keep tires properly inflated;
-
Never overload or improperly load your vehicle; and
-
Make sure every passenger is properly restrained.
In a rollover incident, an unbelted person is significantly more likely to die than a person wearing a seat belt. All occupants must wear seat belts and children/infants must use appropriate child restraints to minimize the risk of injury or ejection.
