Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keep Assist
Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keep Assist
WARNING: Lane Keep Assist is designed for your driving comfort and convenience, and is not a collision warning or avoidance system. It is your responsibility to stay alert, drive safely, and be in control of the vehicle at all times.
WARNING: Never depend on Lane Keep Assist to adequately steer the vehicle. Always keep your hands on the steering wheel, watch the road in front of you, and be prepared to take corrective action. Failure to do so can result in serious injury or death.
Lane Departure Warning monitors the vehicle's position within the driving lane and alerts the driver via a visual and/or audio notification if it detects the vehicle is exiting the lane unintentionally.
The Lane Keep Assist feature helps to prevent accidents from unintended lane departures. When an unintended lane departure is detected, Lane Keep Assist brings the vehicle back into the driving lane by gently turning the steering wheel.
Activating Lane Keep Assist
To activate Lane Keep Assist, press the Fi-Pilot switch on the right steering wheel controls. Press the switch again to deactivate.
When Fi-Pilot is on standby, a gray indicator (telltale) illuminates on the Driver Display. When Fi-Pilot activates, the indicator turns blue.
When Lane Keep Assist is active, an indicator (telltale) illuminates on the Driver Display.
Note: Lane Keep Assist can only be activated when recognized lane markings or a vehicle ahead are present.
Cooperative lane changing
To change lanes without overriding Lane Keep Assist, activate the turn signal in the direction you will be changing lanes. See Turn Signals.
Once the turn signal activates, Lane Keep Assist will be temporarily overridden, allowing you to manually complete the lane change.
When the vehicle is centered in the new lane, Lane Keep Assist will automatically resume.
Hands-off detection
While Lane Keep Assist helps you with steering, it is still necessary to keep your hands on the wheel and pay attention to the road at all times. If the system detects that the driver is distracted and their hands are no longer on the steering wheel, it will emit a series of warnings which, if not attended to, will deactivate the feature.
Note: Warnings can be customized in the vehicle’s settings. See Lane Keep Assist settings.
Steering intervention
When Lane Keep Assist is active and steering intervention is enabled, the system will gently steer the vehicle to stay in its lane if drifting is detected. You can override this feature with the steering wheel if greater steering correction is needed.
Note: Steering intervention can be enabled or disabled in the vehicle’s settings. See Lane Keep Assist settings.
Lane Keep Assist settings
To configure Lane Keep Assist settings, select > Safety > Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keep Assist on the Central Touchscreen.
From here, you can turn Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keep Assist On or Off, select your preferred type of alert, and turn Steering Intervention On or Off.
When Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keep Assist is Off, an indicator (telltale) illuminates on the Driver Display until the next key cycle.
Note: Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keep Assist defaults to On at each key cycle.
